New Logo for DC Comics. Pretty cool. What I like most about it is the explanation of why they used the folded over ‘D’ - it represents the duality of the characters. Clever observation! All their characters have this duality - Batman, Superman, Iron Man.

Bright Carrot Logo - interesting - this is the first graphic I’ve noticed that uses a ‘lightbulb’ that isn’t the old style incandescent light bulb. I was wonder the other day when we would begin to see this - because old style lightbulbs are no longer legal to sell in Europe, and from this year, here in South Africa as well, so it will be interesting to see if the new shape lamps begin to be used more in these types of graphics, or if the old style incandescent lamp remains more popular.
Living in the future now, folks!

The perception that this is accurate is exactly why the management of the Coca-Cola brand is a triumph.
They are the masters at the incremental, subtle, evolution of a brand to keep it current, while ensuring the essence is not lost. They don’t add a drop shadow because everyone’s doin’ it, but they stay contemporary.
By the way, to see the real evolution of the Coke logo, click here. But it hardly matters - this one is what your mind tells you is true, and at the end of the day, that’s what it’s all about, isn’t it?

New Google Chrome logo unveiled. Looks like the 3D logo phase is over. Although this is actually far from flat colour, it still has some very subtle gradients and shading to give it some depth. All in all, I like it. Looks new and fresh!
The old logo by the way:

I actually like the new Chromium logo even better - Chromium is the open source project Google Chrome is based on:

Vodacom is going red. Not because Cell-C’s always been red. Not Because Virgin Mobile is red. It’s because Vodafone is red, and they own Vodacom now. So they’re assuming the same logo symbol, the same colour, even the same pay-off line, and so now they share everything except the last few digits of their name.
My question is, why didn’t they just announce they are renaming to Vodafone as well? Just make a clean break of it. it’s only adding one letter, and they’re changing the rest anyway, so they’re not holding on to the Vodacom Brand’s legacy in any real sense.
So it kinda feels like one of those downloads that gets to 96% and then dies on you, does it?

Mr. Delivery minus the Mr.

It seems that Mr. Delivery is undergoing a rebranding. I say ‘undergoing’, and not ‘recently underwent’, in the hopes that they’re not yet finished. They’ve put together a short little tale about becoming leaner, faster, etc, and so they’ve fired the chef from their logo.

So they’ve gone from this:

to this:

And so I’m just hoping this is still part of some larger transition - because it just feels… unfinished?

What do you think? Follow the hopefully unfolding story on their Facebook page here.

New Starbucks Logo… any thoughts? I like progressions. I like it when a logo evolves, but keeps it’s essential ingredients; when it is refined and tweaked, while still keeping the essence alive and accurate.

Onward, Philip!

Now that the African world cup is old hat, philip will be making his way to over to Brazil.

The new world cup logo is done by a Brazilian agency ironically called ‘Africa’, or more accurately, ‘Agência Africa’. The logo is called “Inspiration”.

Because the logo was chosen by a jury consisting of soccer bureaucrats, a writer and a model, but no graphic designers, one prominent graphic designer in Brazil has noted the logo looks like a hand covering a face in shame.

Personally, I like it. Nice fresh style, cool Brazil colours.

Oh, and a word to the wise in Brazil, ignore the media and your politicians and doomsayers telling you your world cup will be a failure. Exactly what you’re hearing there now, we listened to for 4 years, and our world cup rocked, and not a single doomsayer is left. So ignore them, get to work, and make it awesome, you’ll do great! (nothing as great as FIFA World Cup South Africa 2010, of course, but you’ll manage fine!)
